SOCIAL THERAPEUTIC CLUB FOR YOUTH PEOPLE

 Introduction :

Disfunctional families are those which are not able to satisfy the basic needs of their members, especially basic needs of the children.
Basic functions of the families are: giving emotional and material security to the members.
For children, basic functions are : providing of belonging, security, protection, warmth, but also taking care of education, upbringing, health, living, material security. By another words - satisfying specific children needs.
This project talks mostly about endangered children from those families. It's also about children from the poor Gypsy families which are in the margins of our society.

Characteristic target groups :

Beside all usual development crises which are usual for the period of the teenagers (tumultuous biological changes, psychological self-examinations, entering the world of adults...), the common feature of all those teenagers is their living in risky family conditions.
Many of those children already express the signs of the unadapted behavior, like : non-adequate resistance to the world of the adults, avoiding the school, roaming the streets, delinquent behavior...
Also, some children have health problems (psychological breakdowns).
Violence between children of the same age is very often (especially between extreme sports fans).

The possibilities for the institutional care of those teenagers :

Taking care about those children in the institutions of the state is very limited by the institutions themselves.
Beside making a diagnosis, institutions must also work individually with children and families and instruct families to each other.
Solving current problem, institutions are not able to follow in adequate way the functioning of the teenagers in families and prevent development of the new problems.

The aim of the project :

The project partly fills a gap in working with those teenagers by methods not included in the institutions (for example in : Social Care Center, hospitals, medical centres, schools...).
The aim of the project is better functioning of the teenagers in their families and environment and, also, preventing from psychological diseases,
through :
- development of constructive ways of reacting to frustrations,
- adopting some social models of behavior, and
- contribute to the normal personality development

Working methods :

The basic working method of our Club is working in some smaller groups.
The treated topics are typical for the specific needs of that age.

The following technics are used in our working methods :
- psychological treatments in our groups - once a week, duration : one hour and a half
- organizing the visits to the cultural and entertaining events and their analyzing - twice a month
- organizing some smaller lectures whose subjects are interesting and important for teenagers (drug addiction, alcoholism, ecology, sports...)
- analyzing some important art pieces
- involving some teenagers into procedures of the state institutions
- parents meetings where they can discuss about current problems with each other or with social workers - once a month
- facing the problems by teenagers themselves

Project team :

The team is made of the social worker, psychologist and administrator.

Previous experiences :

The Social Therapeutic Club has worked since 2003. with longer or shorter interruptions.

This kind of working was corresponding to this population and gave some important results :
- children started to be regular in school, and
- they stopped doing some criminal acts.

The biggest problems in Club's working were interruptions caused by financial problems, but the whole-year working is our obligation.
